I have the same problem. I bought the game a few hours ago and now when I try to load it it says "starter.exe has stopped working. "windows is trying to find a solution to this problem" Obviously,it does not find a solution and says "A
problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The phrase "a problem caused the program" implies that it is not a problem with the game but a problem from something else.
More info:
The screen is black when I try to run the game. I have not downloaded anything since I installed the game. I have windows 8. The game worked fine before, now it will not work. I have 1.2.5. I have no mods. For some reason, my antivirus has stopped working and can't be reactivated, it stopped working when CCD wouldn't work.
Before it stopped working, the game froze on the menu and my computer wouldn't respond, so I turned it off. I re-loaded the game and when it worked and when it was loading it went unusually slow, then froze, so I had to turn of my computer again. When I tried to load it up it would not work.
I am not sure if it my computer or the game.
Things I have done to fix it that haven't worked:
After that post, I looked into the problem. I found that norton anti-virus had updated around the time the game crashed. I think that norton updated when the game was running, and did a security scan of the game and thought it was a virus, breaking the game and shutting off the anti-virus software at the same time. I re-installed the game, and it still does not work, I will try again soon.
My other theory is that the the game broke when I tried to launch the game from the windows 8 start screen. As windows 8 is very new CCD may not work with it, so when I started it from the start screen it broke, when I launched it from the desktop it worked fine.
After this I completely refreshed my computer and re-installed the game fully, and it still didn't work. This makes me think it is something to do with the game, not my computer. My anti-virus is working now too, it may have been a coincidence that they crashed at the same time.
Are any of these possible? or am I completely wrong?
I appreciate any help, if you can give any.
I have found the solution. After e-mailing tech support I they told me to delete the multisoft and/or forward developmet folder under my documents, I did and it works.
